The CAMRI Steering Committee oversees the Institute's administration and also contributes to its operations. Senior health policy faculty at four University of California campuses (San Francisco, Berkeley, Los Angeles, and San Diego) currently serve as CAMRI Associate Directors and constitute the members of its Steering Committee. This committee also plays the lead role in consultations with the University of California Office of the President's (UCOP) institutional stakeholders and serves in a liaison capacity with the California Department of Health Care Services as needed.

CAMRI's Director (Andrew Bindman) serves as the Chair of the Steering Committee and was appointed by the Office of the Provost at UCOP, as were the Associate Directors. CAMRI has also benefited from its association with the University's California Program on Access to Care (CPAC). CPAC has served as a University convener and liaison with State agencies, including the Legislature.
